Marques ‘ Almeida was created Marta Marques and Paulo Almeida who subscribe to the Helmut Lang school of thought where “fashion is about attitude not hemlines.” While their aesthetic evokes raw effortlessness, the pair’s technical sensibilities are revealed in the construction of each piece.
Marta and Paulo took the natural course of combining talents while on the MA at Central Saint Martins in London - hitting the mark between impulse and consideration.
They launched MARQUES ‘ ALMEIDA in 2011 and showed their first two seasons under Lulu Kennedy’s platform - Fashion East, followed by NEWGEN Awards from the British Fashion Council enabling them to show at London Fashion Week where they took their first steps.
In 2015 MARQUES ‘ ALMEIDA were awarded the LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Designers, as well as a British Fashion Council ‘British Fashion Award for Best Emerging Designer’ and grew exponentially, establishing the start of their long standing partnership with many innovative leading international retailers, and always supported by their loyal community.
Prior to the pandemic were two collections officially endorsed and shown at Paris Fashion Week, followed by a return to London Fashion Week.
2020 saw the launch of the M’A KIDS line. Also that year highlighted the business’s visible commitment to sustainability, documented through the launch of the “M’A SUSTAINABILITY AND SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY MANIFESTO” and their “reM’Ade by Marques ‘ Almeida” line they kept focused in empowering the communities around them through projects like “See-Through” and “M’AKERS”.
M’A DESIGNS M’A PRODUCT
M’A was created responding to a growing market for day to day high-end ready to wear that’s cool, raw, relevant and effortless. It came from the understanding that there was a shift happening in the definition of high luxury, especially for a younger consumer, and it immediately became a brand that constantly delivers designs that feel accessible while completely innovative and one of a kind.
Having crafted their skills through a completely innovative use of denim, they expanded the same raw effortlessness through a wide range of fabrications from silks, cottons, merino knitwear, shirtings and brocades - delivering quietly defiant designs crafted with extreme care and sustainable practices.
